Tour 7 - Eyjafjallajökull

Eyjafjallajökull - Including Lakagígar

On our way to the 2010 volcano eruption area of Ejafjallajökull (Mt. Eyjafjalla Glacier) we will fly over the beautiful area of Lakagígar, a crater chain that erupted in 1783, being the largest discharge caused by volcanic activity ever to have been witnessed. For several months Iceland was enveloped in clouds of poisonous gases, killing about three quarters of Iceland´s livestock. The population also suffered severe famine. On this tour passengers will see glaciers, vulcan´s and the beautiful landscape north and south of Mýrdalsjökull as well. You will also experience how strong power of nature can be and how small we the people of this planet are when coming up close to witness how these forces have shaped the landscape we will travel over.
